Fuel Cells

Fuel Cells at Los Alamos is comprehensive and understandable. It gives a good general overview of the operation of PEM fuel cells, and some details on applications and the hydrogen economy.

Although not fully recognized yet, quantum tunneling of hydrogen will probably become an important concept in fuel cell development within the next few years. This site is an introduction to quantum tunneling of hydrogen.

To change the DC voltage from your solar array (or other renewable energy source) to AC, consider making your own inverter if you have some electronics and soldering skills. This site has complete schematics and pictures.

If you build a solar-photovoltaic power supply that charges batteries, you will need a regulator / charge controller so that the batteries don’t get overcharged. Here are two PDF files - (shunt regulator and pv control) that show you how to build your own.
