Renewable Energy - General
National Renewable Energy Laboratory. An excellent site with free publications, database and information on all types of renewable energy topics.
Fuel Cells
Fuel Cells at Los Alamos is comprehensive and understandable. It gives a good general overview of the operation of PEM fuel cells, and some details on applications and the hydrogen economy.
Although not fully recognized yet, quantum tunneling of hydrogen will probably become an important concept in fuel cell development within the next few years. This site is an introduction to quantum tunneling of hydrogen.
Build your own fuel cells (its easier than you think!). Complete instructions and templates for building PEM fuel cells with simple tools and materials, plus experimental methods for making MEAs (membrane electrode assemblies), and plans for a small electrolyzer for testing fuel cells.
Fuel Cells 2000. A mega site with all things fuel cells.
Photovoltaics / Solar
Red Rock Energy is the solar place to go and hang out - lots of information on heliostats and everything else solar.
Have a project that requires solar cells, such as building a solar panel? Plastecs sells em!
How to build solar panels - complete illustrated instructions.
To change the DC voltage from your solar array (or other renewable energy source) to AC, consider making your own inverter if you have some electronics and soldering skills. This site has complete schematics and pictures.
If you build a solar-photovoltaic power supply that charges batteries, you will need a regulator / charge controller so that the batteries dont get overcharged. Here are two PDF files - (shunt regulator and
pv control) that show you how to build your own.
Wind Power
Heres a useful site if you want to build your own wind generator.
Hydro Power
Hydrogen
Interested in making your own hydrogen for power generation? See Hydrogen Appliances.
H-Ion Solar. Great site for hydrogen processing systems and other general hydrogen information.
4Hydrogen. Hydrogen directory, and two very cool public service videos about hydrogen, created by grade schoolers!
American Hydrogen Association. All things hydrogen, with a focus on hydrogen produced by renewable energy.
Rocky Mountain Institute. Excellent and extensive information about sustainable energy and energy policies, especially hydrogen. Check out their Hypercar project.
